The small village of Vothonas is located at the center of the island, almost 5 kilometers southeast of the capital Fira, very close to Messaria village. Vothonas is built in a steep gorge and it catches the eye for its unique, special architecture. The majority of the dwellings are cave houses that the villagers built them by carving the volcanic rocks.
Old Canava: Canava Roussos receives visitors and hosts wine tasting tours as well as makes wine. At harvest time traditional wine making methods are followed using authentic Santorini installations, allowing the visitors to see the "treading" and then "'boiling" of the must in subterranean cisterns and huge barrels, and in some cases actually experience the process.
New Canava: The modern Canava Roussos winery, housed in architecture harmonizing with island customs, is the birthplace for the new generation of wines blending tradition and technology as seen in the stainless steel cisterns, the cherished press, refrigeration and bottling lines, but also the many oak barrels.
Wine Tasting of 3 wines:(Νikteri, Caldera and Vinsanto)
The most important attraction in the village is the Byzantine church of Assumption ofMary, or Panagia Episkopi, and that is why the village is also called Episkopi Gonia.
